ePrescribing - FREE for six months

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Just a quick note regarding ePrescribing.  We have a limited time, limited quantity offer for FREE ePrescribing for six months. Our solution is with a very good company servicing all 50 states.  Access is made via any web browser or from a mobile device (iPhone, etc.).

Our solution will of course automatically upload all of your patient data from MedLook to DxScript, the ePrescribing solutions vendor, for convenient access. Any changes made to patient information from within MedLook will be made immediately available in DxScript.  Not long from now the medications, etc., will be sent back to MedLook where they will also be stored for easy access and review.  This is a first big, but easy, step towards an EMR/EHR implementation.

After the initial six months the fee will be $40/month/provider. Be sure to take advantage of this offer - you have nothing to lose. At the moment this is the only ePrescription vendor that we anticipate integrating with in 2010.

Save Time and Money with BillFlash!

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Just about everybody is feeling the economic pinch and we want to help where we can. We can definitely save you money on your paper patient statements.  If you print 100 or more statements each month then you should consider using one of our eStatement services.  Yes, we offer a choice. Each service brings something to the table the other does not and no one size fits all.  I want to point out some obvious advantages of BillFlash.

Consider the costs to generate statements in the office.
If you purchase from Office Depot (as of January 26, 2010) on-line:

  • Medical self-seal envelopes, a box of 500 for $42.99.  That’s 8.6 cents per envelop.
  • Clean seal security envelopes, a box of 500 for $24.99.  That’s 5 cents per return envelop.
  • Laser Print Paper, Ream of 500 for $8.99. That’s 1.8 cents per page.
  • One US postage stamp cost 44 cents.

Paper and postage cost alone are 59.4 cents per statement.
This does not include the cost for ink/toner, wear and tear on the printer, and time spent folding, stuffing, sealing, and mailing the statements.  This can easily add another 20 cents per statement.

The economy is tough and we’re being pushed to save every penny we can wherever we can. Let us help you make every penny count.

With MedLook and BillFlash you can…

  • Print and mail patient statements in just 5 minutes
  • Improve Cash Flow
  • Control your mailings with eApprove – upload patient statements from your MedLook application and review, approve, or reject the uploaded files online before printing & mailing.  You can also delete individual statements and modify global or individual messages for your patients.
  • Improve your service with eView – view and print 12 months of actual patient statements online.
  • View Online Management Reports – see the total number of statements uploaded, total payments due, and know when statements are mailed.
  • Update Addresses Automatically – by using NCOALink, an optional service, you’ll always mail statements to the correct address.
  • Send customized collection letters or standard letters (to see sample statements & letters click here, here and here)

What’s the cost?

  • $0.60 per single-page statement… that includes postage, the patient statement and a return envelope!
  • $20 per month service fee…gives you access to all BillFlash functions 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week
  • $0.01 for colored paper

Installing MedLook on a 64-bit Windows 7 system

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

A number of people have asked if MedLook will work on a Windows 7 system.  Many users have already found out that it will - before me!  In a couple of cases though there was at least one problem.  I just got off the phone with a client that was trying to get setup on a 64-bit Windows 7 system.  The initial installation gave a “NewDBSelected…” error message when trying to open an existing database.

The good news is that to get the message means MedLook itself is running fine.  The bad news is that this means the Microsoft ODBC driver for Visual FoxPro is not installed correctly.  How can this happen?  The VFP ODBC driver installs very quickly and virtually never fails.  It is part of the “first time” installation procedure of any MedLook deployment. However, on 64-bit Windows 7 systems it will not work correctly unless it is installed using the Windows Compatibility helper.

Since you may or may not have this problem it is easiest to assume the best (i.e. that the installation will complete with no problems).  If you find that you get the NewDBSelected… message then fix the problem.  Here’s how to fix it.

First, remove the existing installation of the VFP ODBC driver.  This can be done through the Add/Remove Programs icon of the Control Panel (go to Start and then Control Panel).  You will see Visual FoxPro ODBC Driver near the bottom of the list of programs.  Uninstall it.

To install it properly, download it to your computer from http://www.medlookusa.com/updates/VFPODBC.MSI. After it is downloaded do not run it directly or you will have the same problem as before.  Now open My Computer and browse to the location where you saved the file.  Right click on it and use the Compatibility option.  Let the computer do all of the work for you from this point forward.  In the case we just went through it looked as though it failed because after we filled in the questions that the installation program asks it implied at the last step that it couldn’t finish.  However, we tried MedLook and it worked just fine.

So if you encounter this particular problem you should know that others have gone down this path before you with success.  It’s just a minor, albeit frightening, glitch in the installation.  Can we expect anything less from a new operating system from Microsoft?

2009 - The Year’s End

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

I will try to be brief with this post.  First, business.  MedLook 4 continues to draw closer to a close but as you will learn, we’ve encountered some setbacks to our schedule.  Our summer and fall has been full of them.

Sunday, December 27, 2009 around 1:30am my dad passed away at the Cleveland Clinic.  My mom and all of my siblings were present.  He had just turned 87 a few days before.  He was a great guy and well respected in my hometown community of Cadillac, MI.  He worked for the county for years as the head Equalization Director.  Both he and my mom were elected as township supervisor when I was just a youngster.

From my dad’s life I learned that your character and virtue are what define you.  Even though I am in my 40’s and he was in his 80’s I would call him regularly for advice about work, life, the little things, and the big things. I will miss him being just a phone call away.

Needless to say the rest of the week we will close the office to attend to the visitation and funeral.  We will check our email and phone occasionally but can’t promise any great response time.  I hope you won’t need us during these few days.

In closing, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have a great, and prosperous, New Year in 2010.  We look forward to each day with anticipation.  Our intention is to continue to provide you a better solution and to gain more customers by your referrals.

Praise the Lord in all things.  Jeff

MedLook On-Line, 4.0, etc. status

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

The MedLook On-Line evaluation is over.  It seems to have gone very well.  I was really pleased with how MedLook worked in this environment and think it will offer customers a real advantage.  It’s priced VERY competitively and offers 24×7 anywhere access.  At the moment November 16 is the “going live” date so until then please be patient.  Please submit your orders and payments prior to November 16th so we can have your accounts ready for you immediately.

The MedLook 835 Auto Posting feature seems to be working very well.  If you haven’t purchased it yet you should give it some consideration.  I cannot think of any other feature that will benefit you more than this one. Using this tool the bulk of your insurance payments are handled for you in just a few minutes.  It’s only $300 and will pay for itself for almost any user in just the first month.

MedLook 4 continues to grow with more and more functionality and is therefore delayed just a bit more. I’m beginning to lose track of all the things we have added and changed.  No need to fear though, if you are using MedLook today you will have no problem transitioning to MedLook 4 - it just has a lot of new stuff (but concealed as nicely as possible if appropriate).

The addition of the 837p (that’s the “new” electronic claims file to replace the Print Image for professional/1500 claims) is well under way and we should have a working version ready very soon.  Our intention is to have this complete for professional, institutional and dental claims although our initial release will probably have only the professional claims.

If you are searching for a new way to submit claims, or a new clearinghouse, etc., please contact us as we have some new possibilities in the works.  It will also be part of MedLook 4.0.

Thursday, November 5, 2009 through Friday, November 13, 2009 I will be traveling as my eldest daughter transitions into her new job at Middlesex hospital in Middletown, CT.  She has just started working there as the HIM Medical Records Supervisor (I think I have that right).  We’re very proud of her.  Ohhhh, she’s in for a shock this first winter.  CT winters are nothing like an AL winter I’m sure. Anyhow, as we travel we should be able to handle phone calls and emails when not on the road.  Basically business as usual but with a possible delay while traveling.

I hope this entry finds you healthy, happy, and looking forward to the coming holiday season.

MedLook On-Line - Short Evaluation available

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Six login accounts are currently available for your evaluation of MedLook On-Line.  These will only work from now through the weekend (and maybe not even that long).
This gives you a rough idea of how MedLook On-Line will work.
The Customer Launch Page (CLP) is your login/setup screen.  The two shown below are very generic for testing.  They will be customized upon purchase.  Each client has their own CLP.

To begin, go to either of the CLP’s below.  Initially you will need to run the Setup (in the lower right corner) on the computer you will be using for MedLook On-Line. This installs the Citrix client necessary to run MedLook remotely. Use any of the associated user names (user1@fagerman1.com, etc.).
CLP: http://fagerman1.wizmoworks.com:
User1@fagerman1.com
User2@fagerman1.com
User3@fagerman1.com
CLP: http://fagerman2.wizmoworks.com:
User1@fagerman2.com
User2@fagerman2.com
User3@fagerman2.com

The password is Winter09 for all accounts. Normally you would not publish this information.(Do not be alarmed by the evaluation notice for TriCerat when you login.  This will be removed upon activation.)Once you login simply click on the MedLook desktop icon.  Each login will start up where the last user left off.  If you are unable to login it could be because another user is currently using the account you have selected.  Try another one or change CLP’s and try again. If you are prompted for a user name and password in MedLook you should be able to use Administrator for the user name and password.  Please do not reset these.  If you are unable to login you will need to contact me so I can reset the passwords.

You will have access to all of your local data and two additional folders.  The P:\ drive is your Private data folder and only you can see this folder.  It is similar to your Documents folder on your local computer.  The S:\ folder is your Shared folder.  I have each login pointing to a “commonSample” database there.  So each login per client is setup by default to work in the shared database.  CLP1 cannot access or even see CLP2.

Remember, this is being offered for only $50/month/account (subject to change).  This is a fantastic offering.  You have 24×7x365 access, security, backups and no hassles with software installation or updates.  Your only performance limitation will be your internet speed.

I look forward to hearing from you.

What is Analyzer EXPRESS?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Analyzer EXPRESS interfaces with MedLook as a third-party application written by industry experts.

The Analyzer EXPRESS is the ultimate concept in claims scrubbing and recovery efforts from HMOs and Commercial carriers.

We would like to give an you online demo of the application. It takes just a few minutes. The Analyzer EXPRESS interfaces to MedLook and scrubs claims before submission to carriers.  The healthcare reform will impact physicians offices across the nation:

  • POSITIVE SIDE FOR PHYSICIANS: Insurance companies will have 30 million potential new customers, which means more patients for medical practices
  • NEGATIVE SIDE FOR PHYSICIANS: Insurance companies will have to accept subscribers with pre-existing conditions and a cap for deductibles which means that insurance companies will receive less – consequently physicians will receive less dollars, more UNDERPAYMENTS from HMOs and Commercial Carriers, more denials , more rejections – Somebody has to pay for the cuts!
  • NEGATIVE SIDE FOR PHYSICIANS: Medicare will enforce more guidelines, more denial and more rejections. Somebody has to pay for the cuts!

The RECOVERY MODULE has recovered in the last 3 years thousands of dollars in physicians practices  caused by UNDERPAYMENTS from HMOs IMAGINE what will happen when insurance carriers are forced to do what it was not imaginable. PHYSICIANS WILL FEEL THE IMPACT

The Analyzer EXPRESS is the perfect tool to

  • Scrub claims,  produce clean claims and eliminate denials and rejections
  • Recover UNDERPAYMENTS from HMOs and Commercial Plans and STOP the bleeding

AMBA Conference

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

The AMBA conference is now behind us.

The conference was well attended by attendees and exhibitors.  Once again we are glad we were allowed to participate.  We really enjoyed meeting new and old faces and look forward to some new clients and partners.

MedLook On-Line is almost ready.

We continue to polish the 835 auto posting program.

MedLook 4 gets ever closer to a release and continues to slip as we add more and more features.

In the near future, we will begin posting short videos of some of the features you can expect to see in MedLook 4.

Now is the time to send me any information you may have regarding new features, productivity enhancements, etc.

Analyzer EXPRESS - AMBA Conference Special

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

In conjunction with www.AccuChecker.com we are glad to be able to offer an AMBA conference special for Analyzer EXPRESS.  During the conference Analyzer EXPRESS will be $699 (a $200 discount for the conference).

Analyzer EXPRESS will scrub, analyze, and accurately re-price your claims.  This means fewer rejections and potentially increased earnings.  Don’t be the victim of a payer shaving small amounts off from claims that you don’t readily detect.  Even a single dollar per claim can be thousands of dollars per year.
